DANGEROUS MEDICATIONS  危險藥物

All antibiotics will affect the gut flora of a guinea pig. Some are toxic to guinea pigs and can cause a deadly and fatal enterotoxemia. All penicillin based drugs are toxic to pigs!

所有抗生素會影響天竺鼠的腸道菌群。有些會對天竺鼠造成毒素
並且造成致命性和羊傳染性腸毒病。

Amoxicillin (Clavamox) is one that is frequently and mistakenly prescribed by unknowledgeable vets. Please ensure your pig is not being prescribed any penicillin based drugs. A vet experienced in treating guinea pigs should never prescribe any of these medicines and should be able to provide you with a more complete list of toxic medications or find that information. If not, find another vet.

Bacterial respiratory infections are a common problem among pet store pigs (a good reason to adopt your pet instead of purchasing one from a pet store). New pet owners are often unaware of how quickly guinea pigs can go downhill and how vital prompt veterinary care is to the health of your new pet.


細菌性呼吸道感染在寵物店的天竺鼠間是很常見的問題（是你以領養天竺鼠取代從寵物店購買的好理由）。新手飼主常常沒有意識到，天竺鼠會惡化的很迅速，沒有立即地讓獸醫治療會造成你的新寵物死亡。

Commonly Prescribed Antibiotics

The following antibiotics are commonly used to treat a variety of problems in guinea pigs. Most antibiotics are prescribed in oral form for the pet owner to administer at home, though several can be administered by subcutaneous or intramuscular routes.     Bactrim (SMZ-TMP; trimethoprim sulfa; Tribrissen; sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim, Septra)
    Baytril (Enrofloxacin)
    Chloramphenicol (Chloramphenicol sodium succinate, Chloramphenicol palmitate)
    Doxycycline (Vibramycin, Vibravet)

準備器具: 針筒3cc無針頭.水果泥:嘉寶.桂格(嬰兒房專賣.大賣場)
營養物品: 比利時PS綜合維他命. WILD天竺鼠維他命C錠. Marukan小動物營養強化劑
樂透專用噴式綜合維他命. APD天然維他命C錠. OXBOWO高營養原味草粉

方法:
 (1) 把天竺鼠放好站著你的雙腿(你要坐著) 將他頭微微抬高(呈現25度角)
 ◎切忌不能抱著倒著餵牠，可能造成肺部吸入性嗆傷，形成第二次的傷害!
 (2) 物品調配
草粉: 提摩西牧草粉為主、添加數十種天然營養成分及維生素礦物質，補充營養與纖維質  
水果泥: 嬰兒食品，剩下沒吃完必須放冰箱，維他命c含量較高
◎草粉加水適量，攪拌均勻，針筒吸滿就可灌食(可依情況加果糖或營養品)
◎水果泥2cc加水1cc，攪拌均勻，針筒吸滿就可灌食(可依情況加果糖或營養品)
(3) 餵食量多寡
◎若是已經沒食慾，請每日每1~2小時灌一次
◎若是有吃喝但很少，請每日每3~4小時灌一次
◎多寡視情況而定，若是已經很喘，就算灌食也是吞不進去的，必須要注意這點!!
◎另外草粉也須適量，據guinealynx說法，完全使用草粉灌食，等到寵物願意自己吃飼料，
且停止草粉餵食，容易會造成纖維質不足因而引起脹氣，這後續照顧需注意!

If Your Guinea Pig is Anorexic, See a Vet Immediately!

如果你的天竺鼠有厭食症狀，立即去看獸醫!

Anorexia (not eating or eating very little) is extremely serious and requires veterinary diagnosis and treatment. A cavy you have just brought home that is not eating may have a respiratory or other bacterial infection.
厭食(不吃東西或是吃非常少)是非常嚴重的並且需要獸醫師的診斷和治療。如果你剛帶回家的天竺鼠不吃東西，牠可能受到呼吸道的或者是病毒的感染。

If no feces or urine are being passed and your guinea pig is not eating, you must seek veterinary care immediately!
如果天竺鼠不大便或是不尿尿，而且牠不吃東西的話，你一定要馬上尋求獸醫的幫助!

In addition, a pet that is losing weight (or if young, failing to gain) is also at great risk. Guinea pigs are especially vulnerable because of their need for vitamin C and tendency to develop ketosis.
除此之外，當寵物體重變輕(或者是當牠很年輕卻一直長不胖)時，牠的健康也正遭受風險。因為天竺鼠需要維他命C而且容易引發酮病，牠們是很容易生病的。

天竺鼠雖是有鼠臉,但天竺鼠的學名GUINEA PIG,完全和鼠也扯不上關係!!

而天竺鼠的歷史源已有幾千年之久了,想更了解牠們的話就請仔細看下去囉!

腳底：無毛前腳有四根腳趾,後腳有三個腳趾

乳頭：左右腹股溝處(後兩腳肚皮上)各有一個(不論公母都有,有時因各體體質會有3.4個乳頭)
